Stealers Sweep to the Top of Bob Owens Softball League

Canegata ballpark.

The Stealers thumped the Pirates, 24-5, in game one before coming back to whip Set it Off, 21-11, in the nightcap. Both contests ended by way of the mercy rule.

Stealers 24, Pirates 5

The Stealers exploded for 14 runs in the top of the first inning and did not look back as they crushed the Pirates, 24-5, in four innings by way of the 14-run mercy rule. It was the Stealers with 24 runs on 23 hits and four errors, while the Pirates finished with five runs on nine hits and two errors.

Stealers ace Sam Ramos got the win on the hill, while Edwin Sankitts got the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Steve Simmonds (3 for 4 with a homerun and two RBIs) and Raymond Cintron (4 for 4 with a homerun and five RBIs). For the Pirates, Mario Simmonds was 2 for 2 with one RBI and Gregory Naar was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Stealers 21, Set it off 11

In game two, the Stealers continued their offensive onslaught by thrashing the defending champions Set it Off, 21-11, in five innings by way of the 10-run mercy rule to take sole position atop league standings.

It was the Stealers with 21 runs on 17 hits and three errors, while Set it Off finished with 11 runs on 14 hits and two errors.

Ramos was the winning pitcher and Julio Carmona took the loss.

Top batters for the Stealers were Enrique Soto (2 for 2 with a homerun and two RBIs) and (Guido Schjang 3 for 3 with a homerun and three RBIs). For Set it Off, David Samuel was 2 for 3 with two homeruns and three RBIs, and Miguel Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs.
