Police Investigate Hospital Ground Robberies

Police are investigating two separate recent armed robberies and assaults in Hospital Ground. Police do not believe the cases are related; however, investigations are continuing.

A robbery victim told police Saturday he was walking east on Polyberg Hill when he was approached by an unknown male wearing black shirt and pants who pointed a gun at him and told him to empty his pockets. The victim said he threw his money on the ground and then the suspect fired one shot into the air and fired a second shot at him which struck him in his lower body.

The victim was taken by private vehicle to Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police recovered several spent shell casing from the crime scene.

There was another robbery in Hospital Ground two days earlier, about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. That victim told police two masked men pointed a gun at him, forced him to get on the ground and demanded money. The suspects took the victims’ licensed firearm, a cell phone and cash.

The suspect then looked into the victims’ vehicle and took an Apple iPad. They then fled the area on foot in and unknown direction.

Both of these cases are being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Police urge anyone who has any information regarding these robberies to call detectives at 714-9834, 715-5522. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
