Investigation Continues in Bus Accident

The investigation continues into an April 4 accident in which a school bus hit a guardrail on Centerline Road near Ajax Peak in Coral Bay. The bus was carrying Guy Benjamin School students.

Education spokesman Ananta Pancham said Tuesday her department was waiting for the results of the police report.

She said Education is taking seriously the concerns raised by parents and school staff, and will be addressing those with the transportation company.

Because the bus driver is not an Education Department employee, Pancham said she has no information on his status.

She said six children went to Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center following the accident for treatment but all were released the same day.

Pancham said students’ safety on the bus continues to be a top priority, and the department will be exploring a number of issues, including making more regular visits to St. John and re-enforcing bus safety guidelines with the students.

Guy Benjamin School staff will also be conducting counseling sessions with the students, and the principal has been asked to follow up with all those that may have been injured, Pancham said.
