April 8 through April 14 is National Library Week, which is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide, according to a press release from the V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources. This year, the American Library Association (ALA) has set the theme for the week as “You Belong @ Your Library.”
In recognition of National Library Week and in celebration of Virgin Islands Public Libraries, DPNR’s Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums announces a week of activities and events:
St. Thomas – Enid M. Baa Public Library
Thursday, April 12: Display of the History of Enid M. Baa Public Library
9:30a.m. -11 a.m. Scheduled school visits
2:30 p.m. -4 p.m. – Library afterschool fun day in the Children’s Room (games, movies, storytelling and more)
St. Croix – Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Golden Rock otherwise known as theTalking Books library. Talking Books, is a program making reading possible for visually impaired and physically handicapped individuals nationwide and in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This free library program brings reading materials in digital audio and braille formats straight to the homes of patrons from preschoolers to centenarians. Books on digital cartridge, digital talking-book players and braille books are sent to patrons via the U.S. mail at no cost to users. People who sign up with the program also have the option of downloading books and magazines over the Internet in audio or braille format.
