Dante Molloy gave up one hit in four innings of work as the Dodgers beat the Rangers, 9-6, in Elmo Plaskett Little League action Sunday afternoon at the D.C. Canegata ball park. A bit of wildness that led to some six walks eventually helped to keep the Rangers in the game.
After setting the Rangers down in order in the top of the first, the Dodgers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by Spencer Hendrickson, an RBI single by Christian Rasmussen, and a costly error by the Rangers.
The Rangers got on the board in the top of the second with three runs on an RBI single off the bat of Khamal James, and a two run error by the Dodgers to get to within two runs of the lead at 5-3. The Dodgers, however, were equal to the task in the bottom of the inning. A two-run home run by Aldemar Santos and an RBI single by Rashidi Knight extended the Dodgers lead back to five at 8-3 after two innings of play.
After a scoreless third, the Dodgers completed their scoring for the game when they picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to six at 9-3.
Wildness by Dodgers pitching in the top of the fifth allowed the Rangers to rally for three run with the benefit of a hit to close the gap to 9-6. This turned out to be the final score as the game was called due to time constraints.
Molloy got the win on the hill for the Dodgers, while Alejandro Guzman got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Hendrickson, 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs; Santos, 1 for 1 with a home run and two RBIs; Rasmussen, 1 for 2 with one RBI; and Steve Ventura, 2 for 2. For the Rangers, James was 1 for 3 with one RBI.
