Police Investigate Shooting and Robbery

Police on St. Croix are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday in Frederiksted that left one man injured. A Saturday robbery in Estate Grove Place, where two victims were allegedly robbed at gunpoint, is also under investigation.

According to police, a 21-year-old man was shot in his right ankle on Friday at approximately 1 a.m. at the Vincent Mason Pool.

The victim told police he was at the facility talking on his cell phone when he heard at least two gunshots, one which apparently struck his ankle. He said he did not see any people or vehicles in the area and did not know where the shot came from. The victim was taken to the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a male and a female victim told police they were confronted in the Loraine Village apartments by a masked man who was allegedly armed with a long gun, like a rifle or shotgun. The suspect robbed the victims of two wallets, two cell phones, $500 in cash, and personal papers.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is following up these cases and asks anyone with any information on these crimes to call detectives at 712-6037, 712-6077 or the Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
