Police investigating a homicide Monday night arrested 41-year-old Edwin Rivera, also known as "Cepi," and charged him in the shooting death of 35-year-old Carlos Juan Rosa.
According to a release from the V.I. Police Department, police received a report of shots fired in Old Fredensborg Village. When they arrived on the scene, they found Rosa unresponsive, with multiple gunshots wounds to his body.
It was the 31st homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year, the 22nd on St. Croix.
Rivera was identified as the suspect and arrested just before 4 a.m. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau held Rivera for questioning about two hours, then arrested him and charged him with first-degree murder.
Police said they were told that the victim, Rosa, heard stones being thrown at his house and opened the door to investigate. Multiple shots were discharged striking Rosa several times.
Additional police responded to the scene, including Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives, the Special Operations Response Team and Crime Scene Investigation technicians. Medical personnel later pronounced Rosa dead.
