Carmen Sanchez Bennett Dies at 66

Carmen Sanchez Bennett, better known as “Carmelo,” died on Aug. 20, at the Roy L. Schneider Medical Center. Born in Puerto Rico on Dec. 7, 1944, she was 66 years old. She was retired from Queen Louise Home for the Aged where she was employed as a cook.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight L. Bennett; sons: Ricardo Bennett Sanchez and Dwight Bennett Sanchez; stepsons: Dwight and Sherwin Bennett; daughter, Wanda Sanchez; stepdaughter, Mendalie Lettsome; brother, Jose Sanchez; special sister, Maria Ferenadez; granddaughters: Maribel and Divina Sanchez; and grandson, Avery Sanchez. She was preceded in death by sons: Ernesto Sanchez and Orlando Bennett Sanchez.
There will be a first viewing held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at John Thomas Memorial Chapel. A second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the V.I. Christian Ministry Church, Bolongo Bay. Burial will be in Western Cemetery No. 3.
