American Tennis Association Holds Semi-Finals

George Newton moves into the men’s 70s semi-finals with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ralph Harris of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He will now face No. 3 seeded George Baker in the semi-finals at 8 a.m. on Thursday. Newton also moved into the quarter-finals in the men’s 70s doubles, and he and partner Wayne Charater will face John Thorton and Bobby Hampton of Chicago, Illinois.
Ricky Plaskett of the U.S.V.I. and Carlik Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, continued their run into the quarter-finals with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vincenzo Ciccone of Brooklyn, New York, and Timothy Russell of Katy, Texas. Plasett and Jones will take the court on Wednesday at noon to face former North Carolina State standout Eric Jackson and Clemson University senior Jarmaine Jenkins, both from Atlanta, Georgia.
