WAPA Burglar Arrested Again

A man who was arrested in June for burglarizing the WAPA office in Subbase was arrested in prison Tuesday and charged with three additional counts of third degree burglary for crimes at the same location. Also Tuesday, three minors were arrested in the act of burglarizing a private home.

Police re-arrested 28-year-old Bureau of Corrections inmate Edwin Jose Velez shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the police reports, Velez admitted burglarizing the WAPA office and other businesses in Subbase on May 16, May 19 and May 23. Velez was also charged with grand larceny and petit larceny.

Bail for Velez for all charges totaled $75,000 and he was returned to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.

Also Tuesday, three minors were arrested in the act of burglarizing a private home when neighbors called police.

According to the police reports, Zone C Command officers were informed of three suspicious males in the residential area of Estate Frydendahl and a possible burglary in progress. As officers conducted an inspection of the area, two minors were seen climbing out the window of a home and another minor was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene.

The break-ins occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said the three male minors – one 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds – were in possession of jewelry, electronics and other items belonging to the homeowners.

The minors were released into their parents’ custody pending their appearance in Juvenile Court.
