Cruz Bay Card Game Ends in Violence

Police on St. John arrested Akil Felix Gumbs, age 29, and charged him with assaulting a man during a card game at a Cruz Bay club, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

Gumbs was arrested shortly after midnight Saturday and charged with third-degree assault, police said.

According to the police report, Gumbs touched the betting chips of the victim, who told him not to touch the chips. Gumbs then punched the 30-year-old victim, causing a cut on his face, according to the police report. The victim was transported to the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center for treatment.

Gumbs lives at Estate Calabash Boom. His bail was set at $25,000, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.
