Young Athletes Invited to VITFF Track and Field Event

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) invites young athletes who are either track and field participants or aspire to be to take part in the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Athletics Day activities to be held on St. Croix beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. The day is for boys and girls from clubs, schools or individuals, who will be put into three groups: those born from 1999-2004, those born 1996-1998 or those born 1994-1995.
The IAAF and VITFF hope the participation in this event will increase again this year, along with the member federation affiliated clubs. To this end, they invite all their member federations to take part in the World Athletics Track and Field Day 2011 and make it a grand athletics festival that brings together clubs and schools. Also, there will be a Kids’ Athletics exhibition for children 7-12 years of age on this occasion. All participants will receive a special IAAF certificate of participation and an IAAF pin. Top participants will receive a special IAAF World Athletics Day T-shirt.
IAAF World Athletics Day is sanctioned by the VITFF. It is sponsored by the IAAF and organized for the VITFF by the St. Croix Track Club and the Virgin Islands Pace Runners. For information, contact coach Smith of the St. Croix Track Club at 277-1123.
VITFF is accepting donations to support the V.I. National Track and Field Team members. The current registration drive for athletes, coaches, technical officials, volunteers and supporters is underway.
