Private Schools’ Vikings Win 10-1

Private Schools’ Vikings faced off the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School Burning Blazers in IAA junior varsity baseball in the season opener on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Lionel Roberts Stadium. Blazers turned out in regal fashion. After some delay, Vikings eventually pooled enough players to start the game.
The Vikings lead-off batter, Jemoi Smalls, in his JV debut, scored the first run of the game off of a walk by Blazers starting pitcher Shamoy Olivacee. It was all down hill for the Blazers from that point. Vikings rallied 5 runs in the first inning, 3 more in the second and 2 in the third for a 10 – 1 victory over the Blazers.
Jelani Smalls, Kyu Matthews, Jakobi Peets and Taj Thompson each singled for the Vikings.
Jelani Smalls took the win facing 15 batters with 7 strikeouts and gave up 1 hit to Blazers Kaleem Serrant.
