Burglary Suspect Caught on Film in $100K Caper

A four-second video clip is helping St. Croix police identify the person who broke into a Christiansted condominium and stole $100,000 in jewelry Thursday.

Police are asking for the community’s help in locating the man seen in the video, identified by police as 45-year-old Jose Acevedo of Company Street in Christiansted, wanted for questioning in Thursday’s burglary at Fort Luis Augusta Condos in Christiansted.

The victim of the burglary provided a videotape of the suspect to the police. The suspect, Acevedo, is shown entering the area, using a ladder to access the apartment and leaving the area with a small white bag. Police said the bag contained more than $100,000 in stolen jewelry.

The video can be seen on the V.I. Police Department’s Facebook page.

Anyone who knows Acevedo’s location or who has seen him recently can call the commander or supervisor at the Ancilmo Marshall Command (Zone C) at 773-2530, 773-2237, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
