With the season of giving at hand, the Friends of V.I. National Park launched its first matching gift program.
“It’s a great opportunity to raise additional funds at the end of the year,” Friends Development Director Heather Ruhsam said. The deadline to contribute is Dec. 31.
She pointed out that by donating before the end of the year, donors can include the donation with others made during the year on their 2010 income tax returns.
An anonymous donor pledged to match donations up to a total of $30,000. This means a $50 donation will be matched by $50 from the donor for a total of $100 to the Friends.
“Any amount you send is worth twice as much during this matching gift challenge,” Ruhsam said.
So far the response has been good. She said the Friends quickly began receiving donations as soon as the email announcing the matching gift program went out to current and some past members.
