National Friends of Libraries Week Celebration Kicks-Off Fundraising for New Library

Friends of St. Thomas Public Libraries (FOSTPL) invites the public to its second annual “Gathering of Friends” in celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, which is held Oct. 17-23. It will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, at Estate Catherineberg, Denmark Hill, St. Thomas. With the theme “Key to Knowledge @ Your Library,” the event kicks off an ongoing fundraising campaign in support of the St. Thomas Regional Library in Tutu, which is now nearing completion.

Drs. Lois Hassel-Habteyes and Patricia Harkins-Pierre will offer storytelling. Project Safe Neighborhood’s “Speak the Peace” winners and Dara Monifah will provide poetry, and there will be musical entertainment by the Joseph Gomez Elementary School Fish and Fungi Quelbe band.
Ingrid A. Bough, territorial director of Libraries, Archives & Museums, and Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. will be the keynote speakers.
Light refreshments will be served. Complimentary shuttle service will begin at the Fort Christian Parking Lot at 3:30 p.m.
