UVI Appoints New Dean of Business School

Charles Williams will be the new head of UVI's Business School. The University of the Virgin Islands has chosen Charles Williams to be the new dean of its business school, the school announced Tuesday. Williams comes to UVI from the Fred Hale School of Business at East Texas Baptist University, where he served as dean for the last eight years. Prior to that, he served as associate dean of the Sorrell College of Business and chair of the Computer Science Department at Troy State University, a large public university in southern Alabama.
“I am excited about joining UVI at this time,” said Williams in a UVI statement. “The potential for growth is at an all-time high, and the opportunities are endless. The university is serious about increasing the quality of instruction through technology and training, and the School of Business is preparing to meet these challenges.”
In the announcement, Williams said his immediate initiatives for the School of Business are seeking specialized accreditation for the school, introducing a new business degree, exploring the area of hotel and tourism management, and improving majors and areas of concentration.
“My vision for the business school is to provide a superior education for the students in our community,” Williams said. “We plan to identify those students who want to make a difference in their community and challenge them to achieve their goals.”
Williams holds two doctoral degrees from Louisiana Tech University; one in business administration, with a focus on quantitative analysis, economics and marketing, and a second PhD in chemical engineering and mathematical modeling. He has experience with the accreditation processes of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). He also has experience in curricular, academic, entrepreneurial and faculty/student matters relevant to the effective operations of a school of business.
Williams will be based on the St. Thomas campus but will maintain an active presence on the St. Croix campus, according to UVI’s statement.
