Samuel A. James Dead at 88

Samuel A. JamesSamuel A. James, also known as “Uncle Sam” or “Sam," of Grove Place died on Aug. 26, at his residence. He was 88 years old.

He is survived by his daughters: Anesta James, Alvilda "Butch" Augustin, Sonia Joseph and Diana James; stepdaughters: Leona and Yvonne Christian; sons: Joseph "Tony" James, Duval and John Briscoe; stepsons: Mario and Valero Christian; special granddaughter, Thema "Queen" Henry Raymond; grandchildren: Tiffany Herbert, Selina James, Paul Henry Jr., Omar Henry, Sylvester "Frederick" Augustin, Rakeem Jules, Nathan and Sheneika Joseph, Linroy Jr. and Kwame Forde, Eugene Browne, Joseph James Jr., Micah, Marcus and Ryan James, Duval Jr., Asha, Ashley, Shanice, Shamira, Duval, Omarie Briscoe, John Briscoe Jr. and Rosetta Briscoe; great-grandchildren: Regina, Stephon and Isaya Henry, Destiny Jones, Linroy Forde III, Amarie and Amyra Henry, Symya D. Augustin, Nathan Joseph III, D’niella Mapp, Dellitta Ventura, D’lyJah Ventura and Faith Ruiz; and grandson-in-law, James Raymond.
He is also survived by niece, Sheryl George; nephews: Rubio, Vernon and Alonzo James; great nieces: Amorette Simmonds, Christina Claxton and Sandy James; great nephews: Gary Simmonds, Kareem Jones, Oneal Jones, Charles Rawlins, Vernon James Jr., Karmal James and Henrique James; cousins and other relatives: the James family and the Carty family; special friends: James Tuitt, Fredrick Morris, Bethelmy Dontis, the Graham family, the Stanley family, the Parris family and Selina Periot; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. and a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, at Refuge Tabernacle Church, Grove Place. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
