Two Injured in Midday Shooting at Tutu Mall Parking Lot

A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday afternoon after shots were fired in the Tutu Mall parking lot, injuring two people.

The incident took place minutes before noon Tuesday. The 17-year-old—legally a minor who lives in Estate Tutu—was arrested and charged with first-degree assault at about 2:45 p.m.

Police also arrested 30-year-old Kareem Richardson of Estate Tutu and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a controlled substance. According to police, Richardson was standing with a group of men when approached by officers canvassing the area. Richardson walked away from the officers and discarded several vials containing which police tests determined to be marijuana. He also attempted to discard a weapon that was in a holster on his waist. Richardson was arrested at about 12:10 p.m. at the Tutu Park Mall.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are following up on the two cases but have not determined if they are related.

Bail for Richardson was set at $35,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
