The Department of Health seeks partners who are interested in the prevention of substance abuse among pre-teens and teens to serve on an advisory council for its Strategic Planning Framework State Incentive Grant Program, commonly referred to as SIG. A grant of $771,761, which was funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) under the U.S. Department of Health, will provide for youth substance prevention initiatives over a five-year period, according to a press release from Health Commissioner Julia Sheen.
“We are looking for volunteers and organizations interested in substance abuse prevention for children 12-17 and urge them to attend this meeting to see how they can become involved,” Sheen said.
The meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 1016 on June 29 and 30, at Charles Harwood Memorial Complex. Discussions will include an overview of the SIG program and participation in the Planning Advisory Council.
