The man arrested Friday in a double homicide in Estate Peters Rest, has been identified by police as Miles David, 46. He is charged with killing his sister and niece in a family quarrel, police reported Sunday.
David, of Estate Peters Rest, was arrested about 4 p.m. at the scene. He was charged with two counts of first degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of his sister, 40-year-old Lorraine Joseph, and niece, 19-year old Alorra Tutine, both of Estate Clifton Hill.
A police officer on routine patrol was first on the scene of the homicides Friday. He heard several gunshots and saw two women who appeared unresponsive with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The victims were on a private road in a residential district. Police detained the suspect and recovered a weapon which may be the murder weapon.
Police said the murders were the result of a family quarrel. David was held without bail pending his advise of rights hearing.
The deaths are the 13th and 14th on St. Croix since the first of the year, the 23rd and 24th in the territory in that time.
