Heat, Stealers and Hummers are Easy Winners

The three games contested in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball league Thursday night at the D.C Canegata ball park were lopsided victories for Wyatt Heat, Seaborne Stealers and the National Guard Hummers. The Heat burned the Warriors 22-6, the Stealers crushed the Dirty Dozen 29-3 and the Hummers overran Speak the Word, 17-8.

Heat 22, Warriors 6

In the first game Wyatt Heat exploded for 21 runs in the first inning, included three grand slams, on their way to burning the Warriors 22-6 in five innings. The Heat plated its 22 runs on 18 hits and two errors while the Warriors finished with six runs on 11 hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was Dexter Desouza and Luis Alexander took the loss for the Warriors. Top batters for the winners were Spencer Hendrickson (3 of 4 with two home runs and six RBIs) and DeSouza (3 of 4 with a home run and four RBIs). For the Warriors, David Clarke and David Pierre were both 2 of 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Stealers 29, Warriors 3

The Seaborne Stealers ended their longest losing streak with a resounding 10-run mercy-ruled thumping of the Dirty Dozen, 29-3, in the second game. The three-game losing streak was the longest in the team’s history and it was an angry, hungry team that was ready to explode on somebody. The Stealers pounded the cellar-dwelling Dirty Dozen to the tune of 29 runs on 24 hits with three errors, while the latter finished with three runs on nine hits and two errors. Sam Ramos got the win on hill for the Stealers and Jason Roberts took the loss. Top hitters for the Stealers were Owen Pimentel (4 of 4 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Ronald Schjang, (4 of 5 with two home runs and seven RBIs.) For the Dirty Dozen Jason Helima was 2 of 2 with one RBI and Jeff Elvins was 1 of 2 with two RBIs.

Hummers 17, Speak the Word 8

The defending-champion National Guard Hummers appear to be hitting their stride just past the midway point of the Bob Owen Softball league. After knocking off the then league leading Stealers rather easily last week Tuesday, the Hummer whipped a good Speak the Word squad 17-8 in Thursday’s nightcap. It was the Hummers with 17 runs on 18 hits and three errors, while Speak the Word finished with eight runs on 12 hits and four errors. Roy Vialet got the win on the hill for the Guardsmen while Gabriel Jagrup took the loss. Top batters for the Hummers were Neal Davis (4 of 4 with a home run and four RBIs) and Cantobal Encarnacion (3 of 4 with two home runs and four RBIs). For Speak the Word Norbert Pickering was 2 of 3 with two home runs and five RBIs and Kareem Dennis 4 of 4 with two RBIs.
