Innovative Turkey Bowl Set for Wednesday, Nov. 25

Preparations for the 2009 Innovative Telephone Turkey Bowl to take place on Wednesday, Nov 25, are in the final stages. The kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Lionel Roberts Stadium on St. Thomas. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students with I.D.

The tournament, which is now in its 44th year, is a much-anticipated game among the territory’s young football fans. It is an opportunity for the varsity and junior varsity teams on St. Thomas to match their skills on the football field for all-star bragging rights.
“Innovative is proud to continue the decades-old tradition of hosting this tournament which precedes Thanksgiving. It is a relaxing, yet exciting time for our young people – two excellent reasons for us to continue this annual commitment,” Innovative Telephone President and Chief Executive Officer E. Clarke Garnett said.
St. Thomas-St. John Interscholastic Athletic Association officials say they look forward to the students’ and parents’ participation in this year’s event, which will have entertainment provided by local marching bands and cheer offs between games.
This year, the junior varsity teams include: Antilles School, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Calvary Baptist School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, Charlotte Amalie High School, All Saints School and St. John’s Gifft Hill School.
Update: The first game is a match between St. John’s Julius Sprauve School and the Charlotte Amalie High School. The second game will be an All-Star Game. Expected to perform at half-time are the Police Department Cougars Marching Band, formerly the JDPP Jammerz, as well as cheerleading cheer-offs in between the games.
