For the third year, the Callaloo Poets raised the awareness to the devastating issue of Domestic Violence with an ‘open mic’ poetry reading this past Saturday. The theme of the ‘open mic’ was “Stop Domestic Violence: Love Doesn’t Hurt” – a collaborative effort with the Family Support Network (FSN). Writers, many garbed in purple, black and/or white and pinned with purple ribbons, rendered poems and songs focused on abuse, love, intimacy and societal woes.
During the reading, Lauren Keel, who represented FSN, spoke about its role in the community. She was later presented with a cash contribution from the poets and the audience.
The Callaloo Poets would like to thank everyone for the continued encouragement and support. The poets remain committed to sharing their poetry and songs as a positive force of uplift and inspiration in the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean.
