Ferry Service Down Between Cruz Bay and Charlotte Amalie

The ferry between Cruz Bay, St. John, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, hasn’t run since Thursday, Varlack Ventures manager Delrise Varlack said Monday.

Varlack said she doesn’t know when downtown service will resume. One of her ferry boats was in the midst of inspection and the other was down for maintenance, she said.

While she usually gets an Interisland Boat Service vessel to fill in, that company wasn’t able to help, Varlack said.

"He’s having problems," she said.

In addition to Varlack Ventures, Transportation Services shares the route.

Kenrick Augustus, who serves as Transportation Services spokesman, was not in the office Monday. The person who answered the phone said no one else could speak for the company. However, Varlack confirmed that Transportation Services boats were also not doing their share of the downtown run.

Erik Lidiker, who works for Artistic Villas, said he called Friday to find out the downtown ferry schedule because he knew the companies had cut trips because of the slow season. He usually calls when the reduced schedule is in place to make sure guests will be able to use the downtown ferry.

No one could be reached at the Public Services Commission, which has oversight over ferry operations, because of the Columbus Day holiday.
