SOCA Presents Annual Arts Fest at Fort Frederik

Looking for something interesting to do this weekend? The Society of Caribbean Artists is holding its annual Arts Fest, a cross-disciplinary presentation, at Fort Frederik Museum this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The daylong show is free and open to the public, with community engaged art activities by 29 internationally acclaimed and award-winning artists. There are two workshops just for kids. Class size is limited and enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. The SOCA website at http://www.societyofcaribbeanartists.org lists art materials required for the classes.
There will be an art exhibition, art workshops, a film screening, guided tours of Fort Frederik Museum’s permanent exhibition, dance and drumming, a tour by Sen. Wayne James of his Crucian antique bedroom furniture collection, live salsa music by Sabor Latino Band, music and sound by Jumbie Productions; the St. Croix Bookmobile and culture, local food, fun and music.
The biggest feature is the SOCA Artist Members Exhibition. The exhibition is expanded this year, visually vibrant and diverse, say SOCA members.
Art works are for sale and will be on exhibition until Saturday, October 17, 2009.
SOCA offers lesson plans to educators, parents and school groups, who are all invited to visit the monthlong exhibition. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
