Animal Center, Police Seeking Information About Stolen Dog

A mixed breed dog named Tory was stolen sometime Wednesday evening or Thursday morning from the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center. He is 35-pound brown, brindle and white male with a distinctive heart shaped brindle patch on his neck, according to a statement from the center. Tory was scheduled to be adopted, but had not yet received his neuter surgery. His adoptive family, along with the center ( are requesting any information on his whereabouts.

The thief or thieves gained entry to the shelter with wire cutters, according to the center’s communication director, Gretchen Sherill, who said they were able to bypass the security system somehow.

“I hope the individual who took Tory is not going to use him for fighting.” she said. “Tory is a good-natured dog.” Sherrill said the Animal Welfare Center does not accept aggressive dogs.

“Tory is a gentle dog; I hope is in not being mistreated.”

The family that is set to adopt Tory includes a young girl who Sherrill said is very upset about what has happened to the little dog.

In addition to AWC, the Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating this case. A reward for Tory’s return is possible through Crimestoppers USVI.

Persons with any information are asked to call Officer Guzman with VIPD or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS. (1-800-222-8477)
