DOH Offers Breast, Cervical Cancer Screening at Community Center

The Department of Health will offer breast and cervical cancer screenings from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at the William’s Delight Community Center. There will be entertainment by D.J. Swain and refreshments will be provided, according to a press release from Acting Health Commissioner Julia Sheen. The department is partnering with the United Way of St. Croix, AARP, Interfaith Coalition and Continuum Hospice for the event.

Saturday’s breast and cervical cancer screening is the first in a series of testing that the DOH is undertaking with the assistance of noted cancer specialist Dr. Bert Petersen. Dr. Petersen is working with the department to establish the breast and cervical cancer screeningprogram.

On Saturday, participants can also take advantage of HIV, cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes screenings.
“Our Health-Stop van and HIV mobile unit will be on site to offer the screenings privately,” Sheen said. “We encourage residents to take full advantage of these free tests to know if they’re at-risk for any chronic illness.”
