Cobras Sweep Regular-Season Champ Cards Out of Playoffs

The Cobras beat the regular season champions Cardinals, 13-10, to sweep them out of the Raphael Jackson playoffs in what many are calling a monumental upset.
The Cobras, the league’s newest team, were not supposed to be a threat to the Cardinals with all that great pitching, but the Cobras had just enough pitching to go with a lot of hitting to complete the sweep.
After the Cobras failed to score in the top of the first inning the Cardinals picked up three unearned runs to take the early lead.
The Cobras tied the game in the top of the third, coming up with three runs on a two-run single by Jose Rivera and an RBI single off the bat of Cruz Soto. A plethora of Cobras errors allowed the Cardinals to plate five unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 8-3.
The Cobras then took the lead in the top of the fifth, erupting for six runs on a two-run single by Joshua Torres, an RBI single by Angel Torres Sr., and three unearned runs to lead 9-8 at the end of five as the Cardinals came up empty in the bottom of the inning.
After the Cobras failed to score in the top of the sixth inning the Cardinals tied the game at nine on a RBI single off the bat of Norbert Pickering.
The score would stay that way until the top of the eight when the Cobras took the lead for good, picking up two runs on an RBI single by Joshua Torres and an RBI double by Michael Flemming. The Cardinals had no answer in their half of the inning, which ended with the score 11-9 Cobras.
The Cobras added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI triple by Jonathan Garcia and an RBI single by Joshua Torres to extend their lead to four. Facing elimination if they failed to rally in the bottom of the ninth, the Cardinals could only muster a single unearned run and their season came to a crashing end at the hands of the upstart Cobras.
Cruz Soto got the win on the hill for the Cobras, while Luis Garcia took the loss for the Cardinals. Top batters for the Cobras were Joshua Torres, 4 for 5 with four RBIs, Justino Navarro Jr., 4 for 5 with an RBI, and Flemming, 2 for 3 with an RBI. For the Cardinals Pickering was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
