Kitten Baby Shower Captures Cat Adoption Month Spirit

June 8, 2009 — A newborn is often greeted with a baby shower, and the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center is taking the idea and applying it to its ongoing June observation of Adopt a Shelter Cat Month.
The Animal Welfare Center will host a baby shower for kittens to celebrate the national event. Adopt a Cat Month is sponsored by the American Humane Society.
AWC has created a registry list of items that our kittens need. The kitten shower will culminate Saturday, June 20, at the West Side K-Mart, where AWC staff and volunteers will be on hand with shower registry lists, kittens for adoption and educational information on adoptions.
Adoption fees are $65 and covers spay/neuter surgery, de-wormers and vaccines.
AWC kittens need food, cat litter, toys, and cat pans and metal food dishes. Items that help AWC staff care for kittens include copy paper, flex force trash bags and cleaning supplies such as scrubbers and sponges.
Approximately 4 million cats end up in shelters every year. Thousands of kittens are born in shelters every year, and many end up there, waiting for loving homes.
