Rebels Rout Injectables; Wyatt Heat Burns Corrections

May 27, 2009 — The Housing Parks and Recreation Rebels scored 12 runs in the first inning against the undermanned Juan Luis Hospital Injectables en route to a ten-run mercy ruled, 19-4, five innings rout Tuesday night in the Governmental and Industrial softball league at the D.C. Canegata Ball park.
The Rebels Ace, Vigillio Diaz, scattered five hits in picking up the win on the mound, while Otilio Geron got the loss for the Injectables.
Batting first, the Rebels scored their 12 runs on three-run home runs by Mckeel Rogers and Darwin Dowling, RBI doubles by Sylvester Blake and Wayne Ross, singles by Sherry Simmonds and Ronald Hall, and two errors. The Injectables failed to score in the bottom of the inning and would not get on the board until the bottom of the third inning.
Meanwhile the Rebels added one run in the top of the second on simmonds RBI double to go up 13-0 after two innings.
The Injectables finally got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on Guido Schjang's RBI ground out and an error by the Rebels' right fielder.
The Rebels then scored their final six runs in the top of the fifth for a lead of 17 runs at 19-2.
An RBI single by Eustace Davis and an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth by the Injectables completed the scoring for the game.
Top hitters for the Rebels were Dowling, 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs; Blake, 3 for 4 with two RBIs; Simmonds, 3 for 4 with three RBIs; and Rogers, 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBI. For the Injectables, Geron was 2 for 3 and Davis was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Wyatt Heat 10, Corrections 9
In game two on Tuesday, Wyatt Heat outlasted Corrections 10-9. Corrections outhit the Heat 8-6, but three costly errors proved too much to overcome against a good team. It was the Heat with 10 runs on six hits and one error, while Corrections finished with nine runs on eight hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was Nazario Navarro, while Max Velasquez took the loss. Top hitters for the Heat were Freddy Carasquillo, 2 for 3 with one RBI, and Eric Perez, 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. For Corrections David Clarke was 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI, Juan Santana was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Velasquez was 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.
