May 27, 2009 – The Rotary Club of St. Croix Harborside held a benefit event called "A Roast, a Toast and a Bit of a Boast" on Saturday, May 23, at Teddy's on St. Croix. The benefit "roasted" Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis and Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen. The proceeds from the event will go to the Rotary International Foundation and the American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands.
The dinner included entertainment by Stanley and the Sleepless Knights and there were a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction featuring a St. Thomas Get-A-Way. The prizes were two round-trip flights on Seaborne Airlines from St. Croix to St. Thomas; a two-day rental car from Budget; a two-night stay for two at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort; a Champagne Sunset Sail on the Heavenly Days Catamaran for two; and a $100 gift certificate for the Lobster Grille Restaurant.
The two guests of honor were roasted by several of their friends and then were made honorary members of the Rotary Club of St. Croix Harborside by President Bryan Ridgway. They were also made American Red Cross disaster volunteers and were presented ARC vests with pins from the V.I. Chapter and a Hurricane Hugo commemorative pin presented by Chairman of the Board of Directors Paul Doumeng.
