Dear Source:
Another desecration of what was the beautiful Virgin Islands. Even though I have not resided in the islands since 1962, there are still many memories of the place I was born and raised. I used to go to Thatch Cay with my uncle (the late Erik Perkins) and the late Sharkie from Smith Bay to fish off the rocks with the two French brothers that lived on the island. I remember as a 6 or 7 year old staying overnight with my uncle in a room of their 2 room shack containing a coffin and hearing a knock on the door and when my uncle looked outside there was no one there in the pitch dark. Turns out we were sleeping in the quarters of a big billy goat. Imagine what went through my mind at that age. This is just one of the memories I have of Thatch Cay, and I just hope that the developers show respect for the graves of the two French brothers that are buried by their old homestead. The undeveloped islands are what bring the tourist. They are there to see the beauty and charm. Please, no more Cay development.
