Three Big Ships Heading for the Big Island

Feb. 1, 2009 — St. Croix will welcome three cruise ships this week, starting off with the Disney Magic, which pulls into port at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The Disney Magic's second call will follow on Wednesday, bringing 2,700 passengers and 950 crew members to the big island until 5:30 p.m. Community members are invited to turn out to view a mini-parade to celebrate the ship's call, which will kick off at 4 p.m. A group of travel and cruise writers for various national publications aboard the ship are scheduled to take part in various "shore excursions" and other activities on St. Croix, according to a recent Tourism Department press release.
Holland America's Eurodam is also expected to make its inaugural call to St. Croix at 8 a.m. Wednesday, bringing 2,104 passengers and 800 crew members. To commemorate the event, Brad Nugent, assistant tourism commissioner for St. Croix, will present the ship's captain with a plaque.
Azamara Cruise Line's Journey will make the stop at 8 a.m. Sunday, arriving with 710 passengers and 390 crew members.
Throughout all three days, greeters will distribute souvenirs and rum punch to passengers and crew, while mocko jumbies and live music will entertain passengers as they disembark.
