Bordeaux Fair Focuses on Healthy Food, Music and More

Jan. 15, 2009 — The tennis courts of Bordeaux will be filled this weekend with fresh produce, healthy raw food and vegetarian dishes, music, farm tours, local crafts, drumming and dance at the 12th annual Bordeaux Farmers Rastafari Agricultural and Cultural Food Fair Saturday and Sunday,
There's something for everybody to enjoy or to learn at the fair. You can learn how to turn a calabash into a beautiful bowl, get tips on solar energy, take farm tours, learn the rudiments of beekeeping or try a bit of yoga. Or, you can just sit back and listen to the music have a piece of homemade raw berry pie or chew on a piece of cornbread with a bowl of Jambie's pumpkin soup.
At the.opening ceremony, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, farmer of the year James "Kyrie" Hodge will be recognized, along with gardner of the year Malcolm Meyers and environmentalist Mario Francis.
The fair is hosted by the Bordeaux farmers' collective, We Grow Food Inc., and is also funded in part by the V.I. Council on the Arts. Admission is $2 for adults. Children are admitted free.
This year VITRAN will provide additional bus service both days, Public Works Commissioner Darryl A. Smalls said. The schedule follows the fair agenda posted below.

6 p.m. – Home Grown Concert (Featuring Inner Visions), Ickarus, Rafijah, Smokey B, Nature Man, Khemistry, Ras Batch and Ras Attitude.
