Education Will Pay Tuition for School Employees

Dec. 5, 2008 – The territory's public school teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff (including administrators) are informed that the V.I. Department of Education will pay 100 percent of tuition costs and associated fees for one three-credit course at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) for the Spring 2009 session, according to a press release from Education Human Resources Director Alscess Lewis-Brown.
All of the courses offered to paraprofessionals will be at the undergraduate level, while courses offered to teachers and other non-teaching staff can be either at the graduate or undergraduate level. Paraprofessionals must enroll in education courses or other courses leading to an education degree, while other non-teaching staff must enroll in a course related to duties they perform at the department. Teachers must enroll in courses leading to certification.
The registration period is between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., from Monday, Dec.8 through Friday, Dec. 12. Because the number of available courses is limited, interested individuals are asked to act quickly as the selections will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. No phone sign-ups are allowed. Course textbooks are the responsibility of the individual, and reimbursement to the Department will be required in the event a student fails a course.
For more information, individuals may visit the Department's Division of Human Resources Offices or call 772-3848, ext. 26, 32 or 34; or 774-0100, ext. 8052 or 8055.
