Dear Source:
This has been a great series of articles. It has been informative and in sufficient depth that we can see different opportunities; the series closes with a discussion of what Government has been focusing on. I think it would be a real community service if you calendarize this series for follow-up in 2010.
Basic goals like producing a greater portion of daily/weekly food consumption are good for everyone. There is long term environmental benefit to having food grown locally and not transported over long distances, to having food get nourished organically, not fed with chemical fertilizers. Small farms hold out the prospect of fuller employment and to the rotation of crops, not the monoculture growing environments in larger locales, like the Midwest. Crucians could gradually reclaim some of the wonderfully productive lands previously used to grow sugarcane and experts at the Agriculture Department, UVI and trial and error can lead to better and better farming decisions. Congratulations and keep the hope alive for sustainable agriculture!
