St. Thomas Campus Nursing Students Set Childhood Safety Demonstration Nov. 8
UVI nursing students invite the general public to a display about childhood safety that will be set up in Tutu Park Mall from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. The nursing students will provide parents, caregivers and the broader community with information about childhood safety and accident prevention. For details, contact Nursing Professor Dr. Doris W. NASA Summer Student Internships Offered Via TMCF; Apply by Nov. 19
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is seeking students interested in applying for a summer internship program with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Student Internship Program is an intensive, 10-week, summer research project for diverse undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in aerospace-related fields.
Selected interns will work at the Goddard Space Flight Center in support of ongoing research projects. Applicants must be juniors, seniors, or graduate students majoring in engineering, science, mathematics, computer science, physics, or related aerospace programs. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Distinguished Researchers to Visit with UVI Faculty, Students, Researchers
Five distinguished researchers from the University of South Carolina's College of Engineering and Computing will visit with faculty, students and researchers at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus on Nov. 10 and 11 to discuss their research. The scientists' visit comes as part of UVI's partnership in SEAGEP (the Southeast Alliance for Graduate Education to the Professoriate), which includes the University of South Carolina, the University of Florida and Clemson University.
The public is invited to a reception for the scientists from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, in UVI's Administration and Conference Center. For more information, contact the Division of Science and Mathematics at 693-1234. A news release is available from the UVI home page www.uvi.edu.
UVI to Observe Veterans Day Holiday
The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Classes will resume and administrative offices will reopen on their normal schedules on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
St. Croix Holiday Red & White Holiday Gala Set for Dec. 13
The annual Red and White Holiday Gala for UVI's St. Croix campus is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Parrot's Cove in Christianstead. Entertainment will be provided by Digital Band. Complimentary tickets (one per employee) are available now from Irene Ramos in the Campus Executive Administrator's Office. Guest tickets cost $30.
St. Thomas Campus Holiday Dinner Dance Set for Dec. 14
The annual Holiday Dinner and Dance on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Administration and Conference Center (ACC). Music will be provided by Top Notch Band. Attire will be elegant evening wear. Complimentary tickets (one per employee) will be available beginning Nov. 17 at the Human Resources Office in the ACC. Guest tickets cost $20.
PRAXIS Exam for Teachers Slated Nov. 15 on St. Thomas
The PRAXIS Exam for Teacher Certification will be administered on Saturday, Nov. 15, on the second level of the Nursing Education Building on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The exam will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information, contact Desha Brathwaite at 693-1462.
Branford Marsalis to Perform Nov. 15 at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts presents an evening with jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. A member of the distinguished New Orleans jazz family, Marsalis' music traverses the jazz landscape, moving from traditional to modern to innovative. Marsalis gained wide acclaim while playing in his brother Wynton's quintet, and during his time as musical director for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

St. Croix Campus to Host Environmental Training Workshop on Nov. 17
The University of the Virgin Islands will host environmental awareness training workshops for K-12 school personnel and small business operators from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 17, on the St. Croix campus. The morning session is designed for school personnel. The afternoon workshop is designed for individuals from small businesses such as automotive repair shops, dry cleaners, gas station operations, marine operations and printing shops.
The workshops will review pertinent environmental regulations as well as requirements for dealing with hazardous waste, solid waste, solid waste recycling, waste water, tanks and other topics. Provided at no cost to participants, the workshops are sponsored by the University of the Virgin Islands as part of the Supplemental Environmental Project between UVI and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Due to limited space, participants are asked to submit a registration form by fax to (340) 692-4165 by Monday, Nov. 10. Email inquiries and registration for the workshops can also be sent to Myrtle Pemberton at mpember@uvi.edu.
The registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 10. An online registration form is available from the "Latest Links" section of the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu. The workshops will take place in the Great Hall of the North West Wing. For details call 692-4170.
Student Music Recital Set Nov. 23 on UVI's St. Thomas Campus
The Music Area of Humanities and Social Sciences Division will present a student recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23. The recital, which will take place in the Music Building on the St. Thomas campus, will feature performances by students from each studio. The public is invited. Admission is free.
Annual UVI Christmas Concert Set Dec. 6 at UVI’s Reichhold Center for the Arts
The UVI Music Program's Annual Christmas Concert will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
Professor Martin J. Lamkin will direct the Jazz Ensemble, Shenelle Warner will direct the Steel Pan Ensemble, and Professor Lorna Young-Wright will direct the Concert Choir. This seasonal celebration will also include pianist Louis Taylor as a guest artist.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They may be purchased at the Reichhold Center Box Office, Dockside Bookstore in the Havensight Mall, the UVI Bookstore, the Humanities Division Office and from ensemble members.
The concert is presented by UVI's Humanities and Social Sciences Division.
