Meeting Called to Address School Bus Service Suspension

Oct. 29, 2008 – A public meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 30, in the St. Croix Educational Complex auditorium between school-district officials and parents/guardians of the Williams Delight area. The matter under discussion will be the emergency cancellation of bus service in the area following an incident Monday in which school buses were reportedly pelted by rocks and eggs, according to St. Croix District Superintendent of Schools Gary Molloy. Present will be representatives of the Department of Education, the Virgin Islands Police Department's School Security Unit, the Parent Teacher Associations of the affected schools and Abramson Enterprises, the company contracted to provide bus service to the schools.
Molloy made the decision to cancel bus service after an emergency meeting Monday. The decision was made in the wake of a "major incident" in which students and non-students reportedly threw eggs and rocks at a school bus as it traveled through the neighborhood.
The affected schools are Educational Complex High School, St. Croix Career Technical and Educational Center (or Vocational High School), St. Croix Central High School, Arthur A. Richards Junior High School and the Evelyn Williams Elementary School.
