Alert: Parking No Longer Allowed at Frederiksted Pier

Oct. 8, 2008 — Effective immediately, parking is prohibited on the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility pier.
"This operational change is being implemented in anticipation of a busy 2008-2009 cruise season for St. Croix," said Kenn Hobson, interim executive director of the V.I. Port Authority (VIPA). "The island will receive over 50 cruise ship visits beginning November 2008 through December 2009. Public parking at the pier is being prohibited to ensure that there is no parking congestion when the ships begin to arrive, and to allow unobstructed access to the pier for service or emergency vehicles."
Beginning Tuesday, the vehicle gate at the pier will be locked, according to a VIPA news release. Only pedestrian access will be allowed onto the pier, and the pedestrian gate will remain open, allowing access to the unrestricted portion of the pier. However, a guard will be posted at the main entrance to the dock during days that a cruise ship is berthed at the pier.
Anyone with concerns or questions may contact the Port Authority's St. Croix marine office at (340) 778-3131.
