Alton R. Guaraldi Dies at 75

Oct. 7, 2008 – Alton R. Guaraldi, known as "Al," died on Oct. 5, at Juan Luis Hospital. Al was born in Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 17, 1933, and was a Korean War veteran. He specialized in woodworking in all forms and was an accomplished boat-right and marine carpenter. He also specialized in the construction of homes in the Plymouth and Manomet, Mass. areas.
Al moved to St. Croix with his late wife Carol Daum in 1979. He was responsible for the woodworking and rebuilding of the Airport Inn, and he later rebuilt many homes after Hurricane Hugo and was a carpenter for the HOVIC Cat Cracker foundation forms, and then was semi-retired.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Williamson; son, Ronald Daum; grandchildren: Holly, Adam, Danielle, Ellie, Alex and Andrew Williamson; great-grandchildren; and sons-in-law Alan Anderson and Joseph Stropole. He is also survived by many close friends including: Ted and Trudy, Cathy Glinski, the gang at Villa Morales, the folks at Business World, his buddies from Rainbow Beach, Coconuts, The Hut Club and a host of others too numerous to mention. A special thank you goes out to caregivers Maggie, Celeste and all of the people at Human Services who helped Al.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made in his name to the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center.
