Hovensa Co-ed Slow Pitch Thursday Night Roundup

Sept. 12, 2008 — Three relatively close games played out Thursday night in the Hovensa Slow-pitch Co-ed Softball League at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark, with Salty Sailors, Softball Inc. and Code 9 all coming away with victories.
Salty Sailors 8, Master Batters 6
In game one, the Salty Sailors edged Master Batters 8-6. The Salty Sailors had eight runs on 12 hits with two errors, while the Master Batters had six runs on 11 hits and committed three errors. Wade DeShazer got the win on the hill for the Salty Sailors, and Gilbert Jagroup got the loss for the Master Batters. Top hitters for the Salty Sailors were Jean Picou, 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Brian Baily, 3 for 3 with two RBIs. For the Master Batters Chad Cava went 2 for 3 with one RBI and Brian Haldeman went 2 for 4 with one RBI.
Softball Inc. 8, Cartel 5
Thursday's second game saw Softball Inc. outlast the Cartel 8-5. Softball Inc. had eight runs on 11 hits with three errors, while the Cartel plated five runs on eight hits with two errors. The winning pitcher was Aaron Smith, while James Smith got the loss for the Cartel. Top hitters for Softball Inc. were Smith and Ariel Gil, both 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs apiece. For the Cartel, Eddie Dunkirk went 3 for 3 with a home run and one RBI and Wayne Scotland went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Code 9 12, STX Merchants 7
In Thursday's nightcap, Code 9 got by STX Merchants 12 to 7. It was Code 9 with 12 runs on 15 hits with two errors, while STX Merchants had seven runs on six hits while committing three errors. The winning pitcher was Julio Carmona, and Bill Harris got the loss for the Merchants. Top hitters for Code 9 were Saul Hernandez, 2 for 3 with one RBI, and Edwin Rivera, 2 for 3 with one RBI. For the STX Merchants, Owen Pimentel went 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI and Dale Harris went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
