UVICELL Offers Computer Skills Certification

Sept. 7, 2008 – The University of the Virgin Islands Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center will again offer a nationally recognized computer certification program. The International Computer Driving License (ICDL) Program is a globally recognized training and certification program that allows individuals to become proficient in the use of information technology. It is recognized in more than 100 countries as the standard for certification of basic computer skills.
The seven-week program will be held on alternate weeks beginning Sept. 15. Classes will be held from 6-9 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 9 a.m. to noon, on Saturdays at the UVICELL Center on St. Thomas.
ICDL focuses on developing basic computer skills in seven key areas: basic concepts of information technology, file management, word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentations, communication and information. Candidates who successfully complete all seven modules and pass the certification exams will receive an ICDL certification card, which serves as an achievement of fundamental knowledge in all seven computer- skill areas.
