Brief: U.S. Interior Secretary Visiting Thursday and Friday

Aug. 20, 2008 — Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will make his first official visit to the Virgin Islands Thursday and Friday, announcing plans and grants for the territory and visiting both hospitals, UVI's fitness center and Alexander Hamilton's boyhood home.
"The trip is the final stop fulfilling the secretary's promise to visit all U.S. territories, for which he has significant oversight responsibility as secretary of the Interior," according to a news release from the Department of the Interior.
Kempthorne will join Gov. John de Jongh Jr. and Delegate Donna M. Christiansen at several events, accompanied by Doug Domenech, acting deputy assistant secretary of the Interior for Insular Affairs.
