Alert: WAPA Office Evacuated Due to Propane Tank Accident

Aug. 12, 2008 – Water and Power Authority offices and neighboring businesses in Sub Base were shut down Tuesday morning when a large propane tank fell off an Antilles Gas truck in the area between WAPA and the Property and Procurement building.
WAPA spokeswoman Cassandra Dunn said Police and Fire Services had responded and there was no immediate danger, but precautionary measures were taken, including shutting down power to the area.
Dunn said the tank made a loud bang when it fell from the truck, that was coming either to or from the Antilles Gas office in Sub Base.
Dunn said she expected WAPA to be back in business by 1 p.m.
She said a crane had been dispatched to the area to move the tank.
WAPA’s business office will stay open until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday since it is "cut off" day, Dunn said.
