Twin City Riders Take Win in Two Man Time Trial

July 1, 2008 – Paul Trivino and Apolinar Acevedo of the Twin City Cycling Team faced more of a battle from the howling headwinds than they did from the rest of the field, as they handily captured Sunday's Two Man Time Trial. The race was held on the 6.1-mile airport loop on St. Croix, and the winner's four lap, 24.4-mile time of 1:02:49 outdistanced second place Glenn Massiah and DeWayne Smith by over two minutes. Smith and Messiah are members of the STX 340 team, which took the unusual tack of separating their top two riders, Massiah and Juancito Gario, in order to maximize potential points in the team competition. The move backfired, as they could only garner three points for second and one for the third-place team of Dale Scope and Marius Modeste. Twin City got top points for their win.
The hastily assembled team of Troy Holloway and Jonathan Cruz rode into first in the two-loop division with a time of 33:06, 3.5 minutes ahead of Cruzan Confusion riders Scott Fricks and Todd Harris. Third place went to Mervin Mills and Richard Jeanpierre in 36:59.
Denise Blanchette and Michelle Dizon were the first female finishers, completing their two loops in 45:21.
The next race on the schedule is Anything Goes No. 3 on July 13. The race will be from Fort Christian to Fort Frederik along any course of the rider's choosing, according to a press release from the Virgin Islands Cycling Federation.
