STT-STJ District Will Hold Summer Enrichment Classes

June 12, 2008 – A summer enrichment program is scheduled to begin later this month, according to Insular Superintendent of Schools for the St. Thomas-St. John District Jeanette Smith-Barry.
"A free summer enrichment program will be hosted for five weeks this summer for students who have been recommended by their principals. Students who scored below the 50th percentile on the Virgin Islands Territorial Assessment of Learning (VITAL) are encouraged to attend the program to get the help needed to increase their scores for next school year's administration. Students who have deficiencies in reading/language arts or math are also encouraged to attend toward making up those deficiencies," Smith-Barry said.
The summer enrichment program is scheduled to run for a period of five weeks beginning on Monday, July 7, and concluding on Friday, Aug. 8.
An important informational meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 2, in the Ruth E. Thomas Auditorium, Charlotte Amalie High School for the parents and guardians of students who have registered for this year’s summer enrichment program.
"Most importantly, this year's program is geared toward helping students reach higher levels of achievement in school. Students and parents are urged to take advantage of the services offered free of charge, in a very relaxed atmosphere where learning is made fun. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so parents must complete the application forms they received from their schools and return them to the school or to the Curriculum Center quickly," she said.
The Summer Enrichment program will operate at the following sites: Gladys Abraham, Ulla Muller, Joseph Sibilly, Lockhart and Joseph Gomez Elementary Schools; Julius Sprauve School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High and the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School. Students can attend classes at any one of the sites.
