May 15, 2008 – In recognition of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, Senator Celestino A. White Sr., is sending his warmest regards and appreciation to all Virgin Islands Police Officers for their diligent work, sacrifice, and professionalism in serving and protecting the people of this Territory.
Senator White, a former police officer who served 20 honorable years, holding every uniform rank to include Chief of Police, recognizes the continual work each and every police officer in the Virgin Islands does that often goes above and beyond the call of duty.
"Few civilians understand the difficult job our officers have in our unique environment. From leaving their families in the middle of the night, to working overtime, patrolling alone and putting their lives in harms way, our officers still serve with pride and distinction," said Senator White.
"I would also like to take a moment to recognize all Police Officers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty. We are fortunate to have had the privilege of their service and continue to feel the hole their absences leaves in our society," stated Senator White.
Our Police Department remains undermanned and understaffed yet are there when we call to protect us, our children, our husbands, wives, friends and neighbors. Senator White repeats his call to incorporate the services of retired police officers and for qualified residents to sign up for a career of self-sacrifice and commitment to our islands.
"When you see a police officer patrolling, give a thumbs up, a wave, a smile or a thank you for all they do to protect us," said Senator White. "Keep them in your minds, your hearts, and your prayers."
Police officers serve as our frontline in every day life. We owe them a debt of gratitude and appreciation. On behalf of my office, staff and the entire Majority Caucus of the 27th Legislature, I extend a salute to all officers and support staff of the Virgin Islands Police Department," concluded Senator White.
