Brief: Robbery Attempt at Lottery Office Unsuccessful

March 19, 2008 – An armed robbery was attempted around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the V.I. Lottery office on Veterans Drive, but no one was injured and no money was taken.
Speaking with Judi Shimel on the Radio One 5 p.m. news, V.I. Deputy Police Chief Melvin Venzen offered details.
"We had a call at 3:29 p.m. about shots fired in the vicinity of the lottery office, possibly a burglary in progress," he said. "Officers blocked off the area and searched, but no one was found."
Lottery personnel said three black males wearing masks, one carrying a long gun, came in to attempt a robbery, and one round was discharged, Venzen told Shimel. The three ran toward Spenceley Alley, heading toward Kronsprinsens Gade, Venzen said. He asked anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to call 911 or his office at 715-5548.
According to unconfirmed reports, an ambulance was called for a woman at the scene, who was not hurt, but was distraught by the incident, Shimel said.
