Jan. 7, 2008 — Gov. John deJongh, Jr., and Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty traveled to Florida Sunday afternoon to continue discussions on Monday with officials of American Airlines on air service to the territory. DeJongh intends to focus on direct flights to St. Croix, according to a Government House statement.
American currently provides St. Croix with jet service from Miami, Florida.
DeJongh and Nicholson-Doty held similar discussions last month with principals of Spirit Airlines with a similar aim: direct service from Fort Lauderdale to St. Croix.
In deJonghs absence Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis will serve as Acting Governor. DeJongh returns to the territory Monday evening.
